CANYONING SCHOOL LEVEL 1 HIGH ALPS, 24/9 – 1/10/2022
Canyoning in the High Alps.
The course objective is the safe ascent of the canyon Blache in the Ubaye valley. The upper part is rather open and a very good example of canyoning tours that you can do on your own after the course.
The Cascade de Costeplane pours into the middle of the gorge, which triples the water flow, making the tour not much more difficult. You can see this great passage in the first part of the video. After a short run, the watercourse narrows to a breathtaking crevice in which we abseil three times. Part two of the video shows the last and at the same time highest waterfall, here we rappel down exactly in the middle between the two main rays. With a little help from me, you can also master this spectacular final section
As an introductory tour, I usually choose the Fournel , which is ideal for extensive kick training .
I explain practically and theoretically what has to be considered “on foot”, after all, running is the most common activity in canyoning. I’ll show you how important teamwork is within the group and how you can best help your tour partners.
Of course, you will also abseil the first waterfalls and climb a wonderful narrow passage.
For extensive abseiling training , we climb the Beal Noir gorge, in which ten abseiling points with no walking paths follow one another.
At 20 minutes, the journey is so short that it is easy to do the tour twice in one day. So if everything isn’t in place after a tour, we just start a second round.
Although the canyon is very easy, it hides some beautiful and exciting passages.
The setting up of Abseilständen we learn in the canyon ACLEs that offers a dozen waterfalls. Access is almost always through a rope railing, the facility of which is also part of the daily program. We also deepen our kicking skills.
For example, I will explain the half-mast system to you– Ribbon knots and Mickey Mouse. At the end of the day you will be able to set up stands on your own. On request, we can deepen our knowledge “in the dry” before or after the tour.
The highlight of the week and the course goal is one of the most spectacular canyons in the Ubaye Valley , the Canyon Blache. During this wonderful tour you can prove that you can apply all the techniques you have learned; if necessary, we will close the gaps with a few final learning units.
The upper part in particular is a perfect playground for your knowledge. After the middle section, in which a powerful waterfall flows in, the abseiling becomes a little more demanding, but without being really dangerous.
The three final waterfalls lead us into the so-called lion cage, in which the water thunders and splashes that it is a real joy. Here you are guaranteed to get a taste for the level 2 course.
As a bonus, as a participant in the Level 1 course, you have the permanent opportunity to refresh your knowledge: You can attend a Level 1 training course at any time for the price of the regular canyoning week, regardless of which travel destination you choose.
